Called Mom

I have a few names I go by, each with their own storied history and situational introduction.

But the one that has become the most powerful is "Mom."

When I hear it, I am likely to forget that it's not the entirety of my identity.  It has a uniqueness that way, a way that no other job title has.  I mean, if my students called me "Teacher!", I would have sweetly reminded them that it wasn't my name.  I was more nuanced than a title. And I sure never heard a retail store manager call out, "Associate!" when they wanted my attention.

Do you ever feel as if being called "Mom" is such a bundle that your individual name is swallowed up in the layers of love, need, service, gratitude, skill, novice...and, yeah, laundry? I'm so glad you're here.  Maybe together we can work at unbundling some of this boulder-sized name and work out what it means to be something so individual in the middle of something so massive.  To be Called Mom.
